Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Adrian B — 03 Aug 2010
One of Bogart's most sinister roles, if not his most evil roles. There is nothing to like about him here. He is mean, conceited, stupid, broke, ignorant, pathetic, and above all, greedy and that is why he remains my favourite actor.
Definately a contrast role from his other John Huston film from the same year, Key Largo. Walter Huston and Tim Holt are great supporting cast to this film. The scenery is spectacular and it is the greediest film I have ever seen.
It is truly a great film, and if I may hint, one of these men, in which I mean of Bogart, Huston, and Holt, does not survive by the end. Also, note that the director John Huston makes a cameo appearance at the beginning.
One could translate that as a taunt towards Alfred Hitchcock for his many, many cameo appearances within his own films.
