Review of The Transporter (2002) by Tyler M — 31 Mar 2012

Rule number one, never abandon style.

Here's what you're going to get if you give this one a try: an action movie, a lot of explosions and some okay acting...

The Story: A man takes jobs transporting things, hence the title "The Transporter". Following a set of strict rules, he moves things from one place to another. But when he breaks his own rules things get out of hand and he gets caught up in a dangerous game of cat and mouse. It's nothing to incredible, but it's passable. It's told through a lot of explosions, and a bit of sex appeal. If there's one thing that really bothers me about this movie is that about half way through it seems to abandon it's killer sense of style, in favor of somewhat generic action. The fight scenes aren't brilliant, but the fight scenes aren't bad, some are good and some aren't it's kind of a mixed bag. As for the music, the score isn't anything incredibly original and the use of liscensed music and lack of original soundtrack always bothers me, but the music gets the job done, sometimes fitting and sometimes not so fitting.

The Cast: Jason Statham...Yep, he's the only reason you're gonna really care about this movie. He looks like a bad-ass. And well, he is a bad-ass. But here, he plays the action hero, and not much more. It's not an amazing performance, but it's not bad either. He was cast well, and plays the part good, not bad, not great...Good...As for everyone else, it's hit or miss, with some good acting here and there, and some poor dialogue here and there. Don't expect a lot of Oscar calibur performances from this bunch.

One to Five Scale: 2.

The entire thing is a mixed bag of good, bad, and mediocre. The style is lost and the action is expected. If you know someone that has this go ahead and borrow it if you like action movies, but I wouldn't recommend a rental fee or a purchase unless you're a big fan of action, or Statham.
