Review of The Transporter (2002) by Cedric L — 16 Jan 2014
Undeniably Jason Statham's finest action role, Frank the highly skilled transporter of goods allows Statham to bring wit, style and brutality to the screen. In this 2002 feature, Statham is a man who lives by rules, but the strictest rule is never open the package.
When he is offered a job to transport a special package, he breaks his one rule and opens the package and discovers a young girl inside, a girl who impedes his ability but as the journey goes on their relationship gets stronger, but the men who gave him the job are after his head.
Despite some slow pacing in the middle, The Transporter packs truly spectacular chases and whopping fight scenes, and the odd slow motion explosion thrown in for good measure. Writer Luc Besson, who I personally prefer behind the camera, does a good job writing this exciting adventure, whilst Director Corey Yuen superbly constructs the action with up close camerawork that gets you right in the thick of it! This first film of the franchise isn't the best but it sure packs exciting stunts and showcases Statham's talent for action roles.
