Review of The Transformers: The Movie (1986) by Trevor L — 28 Jun 2009
The Good: The kickass soundtrack of power ballads and 1980s rock, a perfect fit for a film that is essentially a 90 minute commercial for the toy line and TV series. Also, casting Leonard Nimoy as Galvatron and Orson Welles as Unicron, the planet sized villain of the movie. Unicron is a badass villain, letting nothing stand in his way be it Autobot or Decepticon. Finally, the action sequences are cool and surprisingly more adult than expected (i.e. a MAJOR CHARACTER dies).
The Bad: The Dinobots. They're annoying and stupid, even to serve as the film's comic relief. Every moment on film cringly groan inducing.
The Just plain weird: There's a fight scene (and ensuing after fight DANCE) set to Weird Al's "Dare to Be Stupid". Wait, What?
Overall, it's a good film and would reccomend it to anyone who liked the live action Transformers movie.
