Review of The Transformers: The Movie (1986) by Tommy H — 31 Mar 2015
Pretty good for a toy commercial. Unicron is a cool enemy and voiced by Orson Welles in his final role. I heard a quote somewhere that said he did it for his kids and all he knew he was the voice of a toy that fights other toys, and he wasn't wrong.
Unicron's henchmen is Galvatron who has a transformation sequence that's very impressive for 80's computer animation. And they kill off some of the big names to introduce new autobots which was controversial for the time.
It probably traumatized a few kids. I think the biggest flaw of the movie is its soundtrack. Painfully 80's. Imagine a fight scene with Weird Al singing in the background.
