Review of The Tramp (1915) by John A — 12 Jul 2009
An excellent early short film from Chaplin. This is the first of his shorts I've seen that really makes a go at injecting some pathos into the Tramp character. The final image of the film shows clearly shows this development in his artistry, and foreshadows his ending in Modern Times.
The farm gags seem to work better than the fight gags here, but the film as a whole remains thoroughly enjoyable.
