Review of The Train (1964) by Tim H — 25 Jun 2008
Amazing. John Frankenheimer once again proved that he was a master of the action-thriller genre. While this film is filled with spectacular action and FX, it doesnt reduce the film to standard popcorn fare.
The grace with which the technical and the emotional aspects of the film are captured weave together so seamlessly that by the end, despite its simple message, you can still feel the full measure of its power.
The ideas here are original and Paul Scofield really layers his character in a way that is very uncommon for war movies of this era. A heady, thought-provoking, taut and fulfilling flick worthy of comparison to Hitchcock even.
Definitely worth checking out!
