In this cinematic era of superheroes, Macbeth may be the first non-biblical superhero saga ever told. I've read the story, I've seen the theatrical play, and I've watched about six versions of the story on film.
Roman Polanski's bloody, gruesome version of "Macbeth," released in 1972, was my favorite version... until now. What sets "The Tragedy of Macbeth" above the rest is the cinematography, the production design, the dreadful mood, the haunting atmosphere, and, most of all, the outstanding performances, especially by Denzel Washington.
