Review of The Tracey Fragments (2007) by Karen A — 15 Aug 2008
This movie was visually interesting, but a little too difficult to follow. I liked that the movie explored different ways of communicating what is going through a character's mind, like when Tracey was daydreaming, reading, and thinking; we can see what she sees, what she thinks while she sees that, and how she feels about it.
The split screens are useful when it comes to that, but are otherwise distracting throughout the movie. I felt that by showing us everything -every detail and possible angle of the same scene-, the movie actually makes it hard for us to see it all.
When you choose to focus on certain screens instead of others, you are actively choosing what NOT to see. It could be said that that is the way in which real life works, but the result is anticlimactic.
