Review of The Tracey Fragments (2007) by Jesse O — 31 Oct 2008
This movie gets 3 stars just out of the sheer awesomeness of Ellen Page and her unenviable job of carrying this film, if there's ONE big reason to watch this film it's because of Ellen and nothing else.
Not to say the movie isn't bad cause it was pretty good for what it was. It felt incredibly long though, and for a movie that's 75 minutes long...that's not good news. It's hard to watch at times cause at times it seems like there's nothing going on on-screen and I started to get a bit bored.
But again it's not a bad film, I did like how the story progressed. And while I appreciate Bruce McDonald's approach to this film, I think I can honestly say that the fragmentation aspect of the film just didn't work.
Like I said I appreciate the idea, but it just made the film harder to follow and it made it hard to concentrate. It's a double edged sword to be honest cause it helps the film stand out from other indie films but its execution just isn't perfect.
Either way, as I said, I still enjoyed this film but I can't really recommend it as I think that the fragment aspect to the film will turn off a lot of people. So watch it at your own discretion.
