Review of The Toy (1982) by Anecia S — 18 Jul 2006
Ineffective comedy starring Richard Pryor as an out of work guy that unwillingly accepts a job to be "The Toy" of a spoiled brat when he is unable to pay his house payments and may lose his house.
The spoiled brats father is US Bates (Jackie Gleason) who isn't the biggest fan of Jack (Richard Pryor) and has fired him once before. But he gives in and hires Jack at pretty steap prince. But Richard Pryor must decide if the money's worth the trouble of dealing with the spoiled brats pranks and bad attitude.

This unfunny comedy has to be considered the lowest point in Jackie Gleason and Richard Pryor's careers. Not only is it not funny... But the films characters switch personalities way too much. One moment Jack and the spoiled brat are getting along, but the next minute Jack wants to walkout. There's just no comedy or anything here. Not a single thing to make this a good film.
It's amazing that Jackie Gleason and Richard Pryor could make such a mediocre comedy. You'd think they could do better even without much effort.
2/10.
