Review of The Toy (1982) by Chance L — 12 Jun 2010
Despite a good performance from Richard Pryor and some tender moments between him and the kid, it goes way too far with the slapstick and doesn't have as good of a payoff as I wanted. Also add terrible supporting performances, bad running-gags, and an even worse performance from Jackie Gleason.
Half the time he looked like he didn't want to be in the film, and I can see why. No doubt, a mis-step by my favorite director of all time, Richard Donner.
