Review of The Toxic Avenger (1984) by Edmund P — 06 Jan 2012
Filled with hoodlums. When the local hoodlums take a prank too far Melvin is infected by toxic sludge mutating him into the Toxic Avenger. As the Toxic Avenger Melvin has the chance to right the wrongs evident throughout Tromaville.
"I always did want to corn-hole me a blind bitch.".
Michael Herz, director of Troma's War, Toxic Avenger II & III, and Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD, delivers Toxic Avenger. The storyline for this movie is a bit ridiculous but a perfect blend of grindhouse and unpredictable super hero genres. The acting is terrible but makes the film so bad it's brilliant (i.e. better than good). The cast includes Patrick Kilpatrick, Andree Maranda, Jennifer Pritchard, and Mitch Cohen.
"I love the sounds of breaking bones.".
My wife received this box set for Christmas from her brother since this was one of her favorite childhood movie series. I was surprised at how entertaining this film is. I scored this film an 8 based on its entertainment value more so than the quality of the film. The kill and action scenes are outstanding and reminded me of the recent Hobo with a Shotgun picture. This movie is definitely worth your time if you enjoy grindhouse pictures.
"All we're going to find is a couple mosquitoes biting my asshole.".
Grade: B.
