Review of The Toxic Avenger (1984) by J.b. R — 25 Dec 2012
Toxic Avenger is about a geeky kid named Melvin Ferd, who works at a local health and fitness club as a janitor. Melvin is extremely socially awkward, and shy. Due to this, some of the regulars at the fitness club tease and bully Melvin constantly. One day, they trick Melvin, and pull a prank on him that causes him so much embarrassment, that he ends up falling out of a window into barrels of toxic waste. As his flesh burns and he begins to mutate, Melvin runs home and attempts to wash off the toxic waste in the bathtub. After that proves ineffective, he realizes that he has turned into a completely different creature. He then decides to use his new found power to fight crime and defend the innocent people in his town.
I will be honest, I thought Toxic Avenger was one of the worst movies I have ever watched. The acting is so horrid, that the movie is laughable at most parts. The plot is sub par at best. The film is cheesy, mind draining, and boring (especially for a so called "action movie"). The production is beyond poor. I suppose you can't expect more out of a movie with a 500,000 dollar budget. I gave it one star. Not worth the watch.
