Review of The Toxic Avenger (1984) by Damien S — 17 Apr 2013
I give the Toxic Avenger a very honest and enthusiastic four stars because it is a fiercly independent film. It is entertaining, and is shot well. The editing and sound are not up to hollywood standards, but the story is light years more original, and touching than the majority of super hero films that are churned out of the Holywood factory so frequently. The acting is excecuted with enthusiasm, at times over exaggerated, and each actor owns his or her role.
The story centers around a nerd who gets bullied. One of the pranks against the nerd results in him falling in to chemical waste that transforms him in to a super human mutant. He seeks revenge, falls in love with a blind woman who finds him to be beautiful. (SPOILER ALERT) In the end he tears a dude's guts out graphically and everybody cheers.
The songs chosen are also very catchy and well utilized to move the story along by drawing the viewer in to and out of scenes.
If you make films, I dare you to dry to top "The Toxic Avenger.".
