Review of The Toxic Avenger (1984) by Spencer S — 28 Nov 2014
Trashy yet cheesy 1980's garbage.
It's like if Frankenstein was a superhero.
Melvin is a scrawny, weak mop guy who works at the gym and is constantly teased by some roadkillers.
A prank then goes horribly wrong and Melvin falls into a vat of toxic waste.
But instead of dying he transforms into a strong, giant monster that is driven to kill all those who do others wrong.
It's a pretty funny, crazy and bloody mess.
Creative practical special effects and some freaky gore add a little spice to a rather goofy premise.
And if the comic books are any bit as zany as the film itself it sure swims in its own bizarreness.
Melvin is the Toxic Avenger; a scary but warm hero.
