Review of The Town (2010) by Nick O — 09 Jul 2012
Once the cameras start rolling there's no point in which this dark, majestic beauty shows signs of holding out. Ben Affleck's stint as director, following up 2007's "Gone Baby Gone", is an all-American crime bust, with both sides of the law led to a constant climactic triangle.
"The Town", as much about a heist as it is vigilante existentialism, is a case where characters attempt to create cut-off points on their individual paths of void. It's watching these events solemnly break away before us that hits home, tactics leading up to it serving as jargon in comparison.
The fresh stuff is a system of checks and balances; cop and criminal.
