Review of The Town (2010) by Lars P — 01 Feb 2015
Ben Affleck has had a pretty varied carrier. He's been good in movies, and he's been shitty in movies. When Gone Baby Gone was released though, he proved that whether you like him or not as an actor, he sure knows how to direct a great film.
He further proves that with The Town, his second time in the director's chair. What I like about this movie is that it's not just a straight up heist movie, there's layers and dynamic characters.
The film shows us how despite the fact that these guys rob banks, they're still people. They feel guilt, they can have romantic relationships, and sometimes the decisions you make in life can hurt someone you may eventually care about.
These are the themes explored in The Town, and none of it is in any way cliche or preachy. Now just to be clear though, this movie isn't all about feels. There's some pretty sweet action scenes, including one of the coolest car chase scenes I've seen in a movie in a while.
Overall: great script, good acting, complex characters, and you have yourself a damn fine film.
