Review of The Town (2010) by Brannon H — 29 Jan 2014
In this movie, Ben Affleck writes, directs and stars in The Town based on Chuck Hogan's novel Prince Of Thieves. The story begins with Doug played by Affleck himself who whilst being the son of a tough Charlestown MA thief has passed on the chance to walk the straight and narrow in favor of becoming a career bank robber.
Not only is Doug and his crew the most ruthless in Boston but they're always the best since they never leave a trace of evidence and they always make a clean break. His partners-in-crime are something of a family to him especially Jem played by Jeremy Renner who has become the closest thing to being Doug's brother and is the most dangerous of the bunch.
But when Jem takes Claire hostage played by Rebecca Hall, this divides the group and Doug fears that his partner may do more harm than good with Claire as she may recall about the crime. Doug then works his charm on her and as he finds himself falling for Claire, he searches desperately to walk away from his criminal past.
With each passing day, Jem grows more suspicious of Doug's true motivations and now caught between two worlds, Doug realises that the only way to move on to a happy future is to betray the only family he's ever known.
This movie has almost everything you would want in an teen/adult movie bag but I would say this movie is more for adults than it is for teens. With it's dark themes, action, mystery and even great actors on the list, The Town gets a 10/10.
