Review of The Town (2010) by Andrew C — 29 Nov 2012
Usually if your movie can be summed up with a pithy formula (e.g. Die Hard + bus = Speed) its bad news; Ben Affleck (writer, director, producer, lead actor) can feel good about this formula though (The Departed + Heat = The Town) since it involves multiple legends & Oscars.
Even if there is little new material here, the setting (the Charlestown neighborhood of Boston) adds flavor to nice action scenes and great characters that stay consistent throughout (unlike most films the smart people dont go suddenly stupid).
Taut, intelligent, fun and oddly romantic, The Town is not only a fine movie but marks two-in-a-row for Ben Affleck the director (after Gone Baby Gone) a feat he may not have accomplished as an actor.
9/25/10.
