Review of The Towering Inferno (1974) by Dave B — 25 Aug 2007
This is a fun movie to watch, from an era in the 70s when a number of disaster movies (Poseidon Adventure, etc.) were made. Although the 70s was the ugliest and cheesiest decade of styles in the 20th century, this movie keeps one's interest up steadily.
Some of the personal lives depicted are a bit lame and should be edited out (their soap opera character is silly and of no use to the story). But the action and adventure of a fire relentlessly ravaging a skyscraper is convincingly and dramatically portrayed.
Steve McQueen and Paul Newman both do a great job.
