Review of The Towering Inferno (1974) by Will G — 19 Dec 2007
It's got a host of A-list actors and 8 Oscar nominations under its belt. And I'll admit it, the suspense in this story of the tallest (and potentially most dangerous) building in the world is intense.
Especially given its era (1975). Steve McQueen is the fire chief and Paul Newman is the architect. Together, they must save the lives of hundreds who become trapped at the top of a fiery skyscraper during the building's grand opening.
Only mildly cheesy, but mostly riveting. The only unfortunate part is that it comes off at times like propaganda.
