Review of The Towering Inferno (1974) by Toni R — 25 Jun 2009
Irwin Allen clearly established a mold for disaster films, right down to Maureen McGovern singing at a party. fortunately that mold is pretty entertaining. this film sports a very impressive cast (including a bewilderingly Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe-winning Fred Astaire) and some believable though dated effects.
unfortunately most of the meat of writing, acting, character development, etc. was lost to the over-abundance of action sequences, over-dramatic camerawork, and other such action/disaster movie folderol.
certainly not the cinematic triumph it was lauded to be in 1974, but pretty entertaining nonetheless.
