Review of The Towering Inferno (1974) by Dylan D — 02 Jan 2010
The Towering Inferno is an example of what every movie needs to be exciting: finding potential accidental disaster for inspiration can add to realism (as long as special effects are convincing enough) and makes it suspenseful when you build the idea up.
In this case, there's a fire on a skyscraper. Only to find it's the Tallest skyscraper in the world. You are caught between the flames at the near top, and height adds another hazard. It looks like there's no chance of escape. You become more involved with the people, and hope them to escape the building alive, even if you don't know them well. And when death occurs unexpectedly, your mouth drops.
Speaking of characters, It's kinda funny to see OJ Simpson in this movie before he made recent criminal convictions.
Adding extra impact musically by John Williams, The Towering Inferno shouldn't be missed.
