Review of The Towering Inferno (1974) by Edgar C — 24 Apr 2011
I've always enjoyed this disaster films, so when I came across this just beginning on one of the movie channels the other night, while channel surfing, I had to watch it again. Next to THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, it's pretty much the ultimate disaster film.
Campy dialogue, cardboard characters, all-star cast. It's fun to see who dies and who doesn't. who's a hero and who's a coward. McQueen, Newman and Holden especially play their roles with conviction.
Somehow this movie was nominated for best picture, which is, of course, ridiculous. But the movie is still a lot of fun.
