Review of The To Do List (2013) by David F — 26 Sep 2014
It's interesting that most of the negative reviews from critics are male. You can, with uppity jargon, attempt to dismiss this film as yet another coming of age film. The thing is, we don't have a lot of movies that show a lead female character embracing her sexuality. So yup, if you trashed the movie and you refused to even acknowledge this achievement, you are being sexist.
The movie was great. It managed to show the awkwardness of a woman's first sexual experiences and how many people's opinions come into play that really shouldn't. Aubrey's performance was absolutely perfect, and her comedic chemistry with Bill Hader's character was super enjoyable. I do think that the movie dragged a bit at times and that the timing was off for some jokes, but all in all this was a great, great experience. Also, kudos for no racist jokes.
