Review of The Tin Star (1957) by Chrisanne S — 16 Sep 2008
A very solid Western movie with two good performances from the main actors. I am a big fan of Anthony Perkins and after reading his book I really appreciated him as a person and not just an actor. You can see why he wasn't so popular and why Psycho and Norman Bates were always going to be Anthony Perkins crown achievement.
He was more of a theater actor rather than an actor and you can tell from watching a couple of his movie that he always plays the shy boy/man even when he doesn't want to. I enjoyed his character here though, a new sheriff who has not been wearing the badge for too long. People not taking him serious until a bounty hunter (The late great Henry Fonda) shows up with a dead wanted man to collect his reward. He then stays around with a lady that has an half Indian son (which back then was a crime). The story is really good and Henry playing the mentor, teaching him how to stand for himself will always be a good story to watch, we see it in many movies and it's always interesting. Henry has a great presence on screen and I count him as one of the best actors that ever worked in Hollywood up there with James Stewart.
