I'd been delaying watching this (for 18 months!) because the reviews were so bad and I thought the book was so good. But, I really liked the movie. I thought it portrayed all of the underlying themes from the book really well.
I'm surprised it was so badly received. Maybe watching it 2 years after I'd read the novel helped.
