Review of The Time Traveler's Wife (2009) by Jeff S — 04 Dec 2011

Ask anyone, and they'll tell you that the journey from turning a great work of fiction into a great piece of film is an immensely difficult, arduous task. As such, you can imagine my excitement.. and concern when I heard that one of my favourite novels of all time was to become a feature presentation starring Rachel McAdams (:D) and Eric Bana (D:).

Well, ladies and gentleman, here is a perfect example of that process done right. Yes, numerous pieces of the storyline were cut out (it's a 2 hour film, what do you expect?) and yes, without having read the novel, the plot and premise will probably come across as confusing, but overall the staff have done an excellent job at making sure the "meat" of the story of "The Time Traveler's Wife" is present in the film, and that's all I can ask.

McAdams is fabulous and even Bana manages to step up (despite a few blips), and I can't fault or find flaw with, well, really anything about this movie at all. Directing, acting, setting, all spot on; what a perfect romance of two memorable, unique characters we have here.

I teared up a few times, I laughed a few times, and I came away with a smile on my face and a heavy heart in my chest. Thank you very much, everyone; it was just what I'd hoped it would be and what I'd dared to dream about.
