Review of The Time That Remains (2009) by Rendy S — 02 May 2012
I'm normally a fan of cool symmetrical cinematography but Sulieman overdoes it throughout this self-absorbed stroll through his own childhood in Nazareth. What is says exactly about the ongoing conflict is anyone's guess and the repetitive scenes of domestic life are made further humdrum by a cast of characters each less compelling than the last.
While there are a couple of comedic scenes, this overrated conceit is, while very nice to look at, largely uneventful. For westerners to truly understand the roots of the Palestinian conflict, they are going to need a better guide than this.
Stars for the cinematography.
