Review of The Time Machine (1960) by Yoli G — 11 Mar 2009
This 1960 Time Machine is one that will be with you for a long "time", at least most of it. Rod Taylor was super as the Time Traveler; he easily conveys much of the thought process and emotions that the protagonist went thru- enthusiasm, apprehension, fright, solemnity, caring- and still shows rationality . And this mind game that usurps the Time Traveler is the crux of the entire story; it is what matters most, not the backdrop, the setting, the dress, the look, or the sights of anything. This is the universality; this is the timelessness. Will humanity be its own destruction?
It showed science fiction as valuable and enjoyable. A solid effort of director, George Pal, who also did War of the Worlds [1953]. A well adapted screenplay and fine film.
