Review of The Time Machine (1960) by Danny R — 14 Dec 2011
A classic and beloved sci-fi film based on H.G. Wells novel, Rod Taylor in a superlative performance as a Victorian inventor at the turn of the 20th century who invents a time-travel machine that whisks him from the year 1899 to a time 5,000 years into the future where the human race has divided it self into two species after years of Nuclear wars, the passive Eloi and their brutal cannibalistic subterranean mutant masters the Morlocks.
A excellent cast that includes Yvette Mimieux, Sabastian Cobot, Tom Helmore, Whit Bissell, Dois Lloyd and Alan Young in a standout and moving performance as the inventor's best friend Filby. A fine musical score by Russell Garcia and beautiful Oscar winning visual effects by Wah Chang and Gene Warren, it is directed with great style by the prolific genre pioneer George Pal.
Highly Recommended.
