Review of The Tillman Story (2010) by Clayton W — 14 Nov 2010
The Tillman Story is a surprising, deeply-felt look at the tragedy surrounding the former NFL star's untimely death while serving overseas. The subject matter is interesting, but the film's structure is uneven; the temporality is screwed-up at times, so certain sections seem out of place.
At the very least, some of the transitions seem random and weak. Regardless, it's a great documentary about a man who was a hero, not because of his athletic past, but because he served our country alongside other men who are just as much heroes as he was.
That's the film's central message, and one well worth hearing.
