Review of The Three Musketeers (2011) by Peter A — 19 Jun 2013
Most of the acting is a hot mess, and the CGI is worse, but I prefer this version of the Disney version, though not by much. I was interested in the idea of making the film more of a campy spy/caper story.
Unfortunately, the campiness is layered on too thick. The use of anachronistic modern-sounding jargon is disconcerting, yet contrarily, I thought the idea of creating a steampunk-like fantasy with the airships was bold and interesting.
At the very least, Christoph Waltz and Mads Mikkelsen make good villains as always, though Orlando Bloom, not so much.
