Review of The Three Musketeers (2011) by Josh K — 21 Dec 2013
Mixing steampunk with Alexandre Dumas' classic tale, while making it more of a fantasy doesn't seem the right way to go and this film proves it. Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil and Event Horizon) directs this lousy borefest which has no relation to the source material.
The film follows D'Artagnan, who joins the musketeers and aids them in defeating the villainous Count Richilieu. Most of the performances aren't noteworthy, although it seems that Orlando Bloom has a great time as the villain Duke of Buckingham and Christoph Waltz as the villainous Richilieu.
Waltz, as with The Green Hornet, seems to be the best part of the film, managing to steal every scene he's in. Still, the film doesn't actually work and doesn't seem like any fun as well. One to surely be missed.
