Review of The Three Caballeros (1944) by R D — 18 Jul 2010
The Three Caballeros is unlike any other movie ever made. If you want a totally unique, funny, and bizarre experience you should watch it.
It starts as a 'clip show', like Melody Time, Fun and Fancy Free, Make Mine Music, or Saludos Amigos. It then starts developing characters and a plot through a mix of animation and live action. The ending, however, totally forgoes and abandons the plot for a hallucinatory visual experience. The last ten minutes of so have no dialogue, no conventional narrative; they slip into a realm that was fairly daring and unexplored.
The whole frame story takes place in what must be the most stark of Disney's backdrops, which helps to make the rest of the film pop. The shorts at the beginning, too, are very entertaining.
