Review of The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005) by Heatherw. — 21 Mar 2006
About half-way through this movie I realized that it's the Mexican "Crash," although it's better than "Crash" in several respects. For one thing it's less predictable.
Full of twists and turns and unexpected epiphanies. It also contains one of the saddest, most moving moments caught on film that I've ever seen (the old man's request). An interesting meditation on the nature of friendship and cruelity and how people never are who we think they are.
My only gripe was the seemingly endless scenes with the corpse - especially the ant scene. If I hadn't already fallen in love with the movie, I might have got up and left at that point.
