Review of The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005) by Andrew C — 31 Oct 2008
Jones' acting and the beautiful camera work are unfortunately really the only stand-outs in this movie. The pace is slow, which fits the setting, but there isn't enough in that slowness to make it interesting.
The minor characters we meet in Mexico are of little to no importance and simply seem to be there to explain that the journey is long, and here's how they survived the desert. I wanted to get more involved as there were some great personalities in the film, but almost all of them get swept to the side to focus on how Jones and Pepper change during their grueling journey.
And in the end, it just doesn't seem to matter that much.
