(2006) The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.
WESTERN DRAMA/ SOCIAL COMMENTARY.
May have contributed directing tips to Tommmy Lee Jones other film "No Country For Old Men". The title as the film indicates "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada" is referring to a particular person whose been buried about three different times throughout the film. Made like a Western but is really isn't which it almost states the situation without asking for the audiences sympathy in my opinion, a very hard thing to do and I have to credit the actor and star Tommy Lee Jones for this kind of approach. The first 5 minutes has Tommy Lee Jones as Pete and he is requesting information regarding his friend Melquiades Estrada, and we the audience don't know who he is nor what he look like except that by judging by his name, he appears to be a person from Mexico. The movie then introduces us to another character and he's a border patrol officer whose just moved into the commmunity but seems to know absoultely know nothing about it- him and his young wife. We know theirs a connection but it will get their for it's just a matter of time hence the title. As forementioned the movie uses past as well as the present to lay out the situation and it's requesting the viewers patience for we are very curious how and why!
The reason why I thought it may have been the basis for "No Country..." even though it came from a novel was because the style of the story depends soley on time between the present and the past.
3 out of 4.
