Review of The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) by Darren B — 27 Dec 2008
This movie is fun if you're a 'thinker'. If you're looking for the typical Pierce Brosnan fair (i.e. James Bond), this isn't for you. If you're looking for a sexy, evolved, intellectual, cat-and-mouse adventure, watch this film.
For me, this is easily my favorite Pierce Brosnan vehicle. Rene Russo is also very good, and the two share what is probably the best love scene between 2 people over the age of 40. The movie blends fast-paced subtle action with an intriguing psychological arc that sets up for a lot of fun. Many of the jokes will go over a lot of people's heads, unless you're in on it. The only real failure here is the use of Denis Leary's character, which feels more like an annoyance than a character you want to believe in.
This version, I feel, is far superior to the original. It's worth a rental.
