Review of The Third Man (1949) by August M — 09 Mar 2015
Being 48 and a big film fan, I've seen most of the oldies, but had always missed this one. I kind of saved it up until I could get nice and comfortable for an attentive viewing as I'd always known from others that it was a special film.
Finally, being on Nexflix made it a no-brainer.
Possibly my new favourite film, at least up their with Casablanca. Certainly one of the most beautifully filmed black and whites ever, with many great scenes including one of film's all-time most famous twists, and with what's widely considered to be the greatest and saddest closing shot in movie history. It's postwar setting gives it a realism that has prevented it from looking dated in any way. Vienna in all it's worn torn rubble is filmed beautifully and eerily at the same time.
If you've never seen The Third Man, you must.
You're welcome.
