Review of The Thing from Another World (1951) by Johnny S — 31 Oct 2007
This film just goes to show that you really don't need fancy CGI, a huge budget or even colour to put a good film together. This is the first version of John W. Campbell's short story "Who Goes There?".
Of course in this film we have no shape-shifting alien, as described by one of the characters it's a super-carrot from space. Unfortunate for our group of Americans at the North Pole this alien wants to use their blood as plant food.
In one scene they do describe how some characters have been hung upside down and had their throats slit to provide food for little baby aliens, which to me does seem a graphic description for a 50's film.
This film would certainly have got the full five stars back when it was first released, but now it has to just settle for the three and a half (almost four).
