Review of The Thing Called Love (1993) by Ai H — 01 Jan 2009
Easily one of my favorite films regarding the music industry. Even though I'm not a fan of modern country music (at all), the selections are played to really suit everybody. Being a musician, I find myself in a state of whimsy watching these characters struggle to make something of themselves.
Of course, this doesn't make a film very interesting on it's own though, so the love triangle is a perfect mix to compliment all sides. The cast is perfect, and being a fan of River Phoenix and Dermot Mulroney, helps me to love this film even more! Also, this is River Phoenix last great performance, and it was good just to see the guy have some fun.
Great change of pace for Director Peter Bogdanovich as well. On a side-note, just try and not get some of these songs stuck in your head!
