Review of The Thing (2011) by Sam B — 17 Sep 2014
Any critic who thought this film was bad obviously doesn't understand either the story, or John Carpenter, or both. This is a damned fine homage to Carpenter's 1982 version, complete with his signature font and music at the end.
The clever twists and departures (and similarities) of this film compared to that of 1982 make for a profoundly intelligent, genuinely horrifying remake. This is a superbly made film, start to finish.
It's too bad idiotic "critics" with no feel for the genre are even allowed to write negatively about such good work, much less to get paid for it. I'm sure such reviews helped foster a pretty dismal box office take and financial loss for this excellent film.
