Before I even consider what to say about this movie, I want you to know that I have been waiting for this movie since it was announced on IMDB as a potential project in 2006/2007, being a Huge fan of John Carpenters "The Thing".

After asking around a bit, I realized how much hate this movie is getting from all of Carpenters fans.

What is this all about?

Yes I liked the movie, I maybe even go as far and say that I thought it was a solid 4/5.

Why you may ask?

Well for starters, the first "the Thing" was released in 1982 - and considering the standard movie FX and state of the 80's film technology, this was a movie warped in from the very future! Everything looked great and efficiently disturbing, this combined with the plot made it an incredibly nerve wrecking horror flick.

Now let's compare The Thing 2011. Which first of all, is not a remake! It's a prequel for those of you who don't know.

To put them next to each other you have to consider this!

It would have been necessary for the movie to include State of the art filming technology - Something along the lines of a certain movie directed by a certain mister, Cameron.

Not only is this ridiculously ambitious to expect anything along those lines from a b-side project. I'll even go as far and say that it's utterly narrowminded to put your hands up that high for this specific movie considering the cast and the team that was working on this movie.

Yes they replaced the damn authentic lookin' handcraftet monster with a digital model, but it was acceptable -.

The plot was lacking "colours"- and the "last showdown" did sprung out rather weak, but if you are to compare with the old movie the list would just go on and on with the same kind of things you could pick up and dust off.

Point is, as a modern age movie - this was simply destined to hit below the belt, and I think people were expecting some kind of modern revamped gloryfied remake, but what they got had nothing that could compare to the old model.

If you have made it this far in the review, do me a favour.

If you are gonna watch it for the first time, don't expect mac to ask for a flamethrower, know that you will watch a movie entirely based on the idea of a very subtle 5 minute long scene from the "original" The Thing.

And consider how well they pieced together an entire movie build around the speculations of what happened to the poor Norwegians and their first confrontation with The Thing.

For a horror movie, it's lacking. Left behind from this soulsucked genre, so don't expect that you will jump through the roof out of pure horror.

Enjoy it for what it is, and if you need to go pick on something, go watch Season Of The Witch.
