It appeals specifically to certain fans of the 1982 film, and leaves everyone else out in the dark. The one element that truly throws everything off is the obvious, unconvincing, and often laughable use of CGI.
Practical effects fans may want to skip out on this one. Still, it holds itself together as a movie made by people who love the 1982 film, and for that I can give it credit.
