Review of The Thing (1982) by Tyler R — 13 May 2012
Although made in the early 80's, the special effects are simply amazing and truely old-school. The Thing is a peerless masterpiece of relentless suspense, retina-wrecking visual excess and outright, nihilistic terror.
The special effects can't hope to be as creepy to our seen-it-all eyes as they were to the film's first viewers, but we can still enjoy the monster's unique weirdness, and the story is a rock-solid yarn, but depending what mood your in you can appreciate the cool special effects, it can shock and scare you.
If it's the most vividly guesome monster ever to stalk the screen that audiences crave, then The Thing is the thing. It's not just gore and shock effects that carry this film but also the suspence and major tension between the characters is another highlight of the film.
It's when the "Thing" becomes one of the crew is when the paranoia comes out and you can't trust who's who...it's also unpredictable which most films can't pull off. This is probably my favourite Alien type movie that has everything you should expect in a Sci-Fi horror.
It's a classic and a must see...they don't make this sort of "Thing" anymore lol.
