Review of The Thing (1982) by Andres A — 19 Feb 2013
It is a great blend of body horror, paranioa and fear of the unknown. Even today the film's grusome scenes of the creature's transformations and mutilations of the victims are beyond cringe worthy.
The film's only suffering is a slight lack of characterization of the people we see and get to know, contrary to popular belief. (despite the fact that all of the characters are visually identifiable, only a handful of characters get real development and establishments of personality- those being Macraedy, Blair, Childs and Garry.
) Despite having a premise that is reminiscent of those in a 1950s sci-fi horror comic (ala EC comics), its execution and craft is grade A and it is still a breathtaking work of imaginative, inspired horror that seems to have lasted the test of time.
