Review of The Thing (1982) by Eytan D — 15 Oct 2013
While Carpenter has always been a bigger fan of "less is more" with his classics like "Halloween", "The Fog" and "Christine", "The Thing" is a rare film in which unbelievable special effects combine with a grim, eerie atmosphere.
Not to mention there's paranoia a plenty. "The Thing" does have a bit of a slow build-up, but it's ultimately worth it for the terror that ensues. Kurt Russell and his all-male ensemble do a terrific job, and the story is frightening enough to make you think twice about the person sitting next to you.
For a remake, Carpenter's "The Thing" is not only significantly better, but it's also great, scary sci-fi horror.
