Review of The Thing (1982) by Matt M — 03 Jan 2014
Carpenter takes his distinctive style of horror filmmaking to the Antarctic where a group of men are confronted by a terrible shift-shaping alien. The Thing convincingly updated the b-horror creature feature with lots of tension and great special effects.
In the process he ends up creating a classic of the horror genre of its own. The special effects are truly stunning and particularly the ones utilised for 'the thing' in question are horrifying.
Carpenter is also very good at building up a certain amount of tension and suspense as well as a nightmarish vision in its freszing and perennial white setting.
